Duke undergraduate, graduate and professional students can apply at the Center for Canadian Studies for the annual six-week summer French immersion program which takes place at the University of Québec, Trois-Rivières Campus. Trois-Rivières lies on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River, halfway between Montréal and Québec City. Each summer, Trois-Rivières hosts a lively festival that includes theatrical shows, street activities, arts and crafts, parades, and fireworks making this historic city a perfect environment in which to learn French.
L'École internationale de français (EIF) offers outstanding French language training. The program is designed to provide students with the ability to communicate effectively in French putting an emphasis on written and oral skills. The highly qualified teaching staff from France and Canada will help you progress in your learning of International French and lead you to discover the riches of Québec culture.

There are two applications that must be completed:

Proficiency testing: Students are tested upon their arrival at Trois-Rivières, and placed in small groups of about 16 people at the same level of French competency. Groups range from those with little or no French, to very advanced.
Activities: In addition to classes, students have the opportunity to participate in social and cultural activities, concerts, films and various sports. Weekend trips to Montréal and Québec City are also planned.
Cost/Dates
Includes tuition, room and board, all workshops and social activities.
$50.00 deposit fee refundable to those who successfully complete the program.

Students wishing to receive academic credit from Duke for programs not approved for study abroad by Duke University will need to file a formal petition for approval.
