The Duke Center for European Studies (DUCES) has been in existence since 1989,
and since 2000 has resided in the John Hope Franklin Center for Interdisciplinary and
International Studies, a consortium of 21 area-based and interdisciplinary centers, institutes
and programs, the great breadth of which facilitates and maximizes faculty and student
intellectual interaction.
Consortium members include, among others:
The Center for French and Francophone Studies
The Center for International Studies
The Center for the Study of Muslim Networks
Information Science+Information Studies
International Comparative Studies
The Center provides funding and support to workshops, seminars and research
groups; travel and research support awards to faculty and graduate students, support for
the development of new European Studies courses; office space and administrative support
for visiting scholars, and through the auspices of the Executive Committee, approves all
applications for the Graduate Certificate in Interdisciplinary European Studies.
