The NCCSAS seeks to promote research and teaching in the languages and cultures of South Asia in the constituent universities of the Triangle South Asia Consortium and the region.

The NCCSAS is a dues-paying interinstitutional research center supported by Duke University, North Carolina State University, the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

University of North Carolina Board of Governors Registry

The NCCSAS is a University of North Carolina Board of Governors-sanctioned "interinstitutional research center" with secretariat located at Duke University and reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor of Research.

Title VI Undergraduate National Resource Center

The NCCSAS is currently an undergraduate national resouce center for the study of South Asia, awarded by the Title VI NRC program (CFDA 84.015) of the International Education and Graduate Programs service of the US Department of Education.
