Language Offerings

The four campuses of the Consortium offer instruction in a wide selection of South Asian languages, in regular and televideo formats, including Bengali, Hindi, Persian, Sanskrit, Tamil, and Urdu. If you are thinking of learning a South Asian language, this article contains a valuable introduction.

Hindi-Urdu

Hindi-Urdu is offered with regular instruction by faculty at NCSU, Duke, and UNC-CH, and by televideo instruction at NCCU.

Sanskrit

Sanskrit is offered at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill through the Linguistics Department. Contact Ms. Samelia McIver, 962-1192, mciver@email.unc.edu for information.

Critical Languages Program

Classes in four less-commonly-taught South Asian languages are offered across our four Triangle consortium campuses, Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University, Fayetteville State University, and North Carolina Central University. Other languages, such as Assamese, Dari, Gujarati, Kannada, Panjabi, Malayalam, Marathi, Pashtu, Tamil, Telugu, etc., are available through the Language Independent Study Program.
