John Hope Franklin Center for Interdisciplinary and International Studies - The Franklin Center is a place where scholars, artists and community members can investigate how we think about the world. It is dedicated to the notion of our participation as global citizens in a broader community, and its mission is to celebrate the spirit, scholarship and vision of John Hope Franklin, noted historian and civil rights activist.

Global Gateway to International Programs and Resources - the gateway into international resources and programs at Duke University. This site has been developed to serve not only Duke faculty and students interested in international research and collaboration, but also foreign nationals seeking to pursue educational, research and teaching opportunities at Duke.

Office of the Vice Provost for International Affairs - This office was established in 1995 to facilitate coordination among the University’s international programs and provide a locus for new initiatives. The main focus of the office remains the enhancement and encouragement of internationalization by promoting international development on campus and increasing Duke’s presence around the world.

Area Studies sites:

African & African American Studies - The African & African-American Studies Program is designed to establish coordinated interdisciplinary study of the history and culture, the social and economic issues, and the political institutions and processes that have shaped the experiences of people of African ancestry.

Asian/Pacific Studies Institute - The Asian/Pacific Studies Institute (APSI), established in 1981, supports and coordinates academic endeavors involving East and Southeast Asian cultures and society undertaken by scholars and students at Duke University and in the Southeast region of the United States.

Center for European Studies - As a European Union Center, and National Resource Center on Western Europe, the Center for European Studies (CES) promotes programs, courses, and research that directly address questions concerning contemporary Europe, and the European Union.

Comparative Area Studies - Comparative Area Studies (CAS) offers a major and minor to undergraduate students interested in the interdisciplinary study of societies and cultures of a particular region of the world, complemented with a concentration in a second world area and comparative study of international issues.

Globalization, Equity & Democratic Governance - A seminar that explores how global economic changes are affecting the distribution of wealth and well being among and within nations.

Latin American & Caribbean Studies - Oversees and coordinates graduate and undergraduate education in Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and promotes research and dissemination of knowledge about the region. The Center offers two certificate options for graduate students plus a certificate for undergraduate students.

North American Studies - North American Studies is the first U.S. Dept. of Education National Resource Center devoted to the study of North America as a region. It focuses on the political, social, & cultural consequences of regionalization, and attempts to place them within the long history of the interaction of Canada and Mexico with the U.S.

Oceans Connect - An international studies program that seeks to supplement the continentally based framework of area studies with a distinctly different overlay, one that highlights the linkages and exchanges across oceans.

Program in Asian Security Studies (PASS) - Given the increasing importance of East Asia and the growing security concerns in this area, Duke University established PASS in 1998. PASS sponsors conferences, seminars and lectures to encourage critical research and discussion of East Asian security policy issues.

Slavic, Eurasian & East European Studies - The Center for Slavic, Eurasian, & East European Studies funds course development, organizes lectures, workshops and conferences, sponsors visiting faculty, funds acquisition of additional library resources, and engages in other activities to promote the study of Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.

South Asian Studies - South Asian Studies is part of The Triangle South Asia Consortium, an educational cooperative composed of the South Asia faculties of NCSU, Duke University, UNC-Chapel Hill, and NCCU, whose mission is to promote the scholarly study of the South Asian sub-continent.

Triangle Institute for Security Studies (TISS) - T.I.S.S. is an interdisciplinary consortium of Duke University, UNC-Chapel Hill, and NCSU, whose object is to promote communication and cooperation across disciplines and beyond the confines of each university in order to advance research and education concerning national and international security.
