This senior seminar is the capstone course for the International Comparative Studies major. It will give ICS students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of issues and concepts raised in previous ICS courses, to reflect on the relationship between their academic program and their life experiences, and to contemplate the transition from undergraduate study to post-graduate life. Students will be able to exchange perspectives with other ICS students who have been studying different parts of the world. We will address a wide range of issues, focusing in particular on identity and globalization and the relationship between the two. We will consider a selection of mostly short readings from around the world and from a variety of disciplinary perspectives. Authors may include Arjun Appadurai, Kwame Anthony Appiah, Albert Camus, Frantz Fanon, Jamaica Kincaid, Amartya Sen, and Dubravka Ugresic.
