The Policy and Organizational Management Program (POMP) works directly and cooperatively with domestic and international corporations, academic institutions, and foreign governments to customize a variety of professional development programs for managers, civil servants, ranking officials, faculty and advanced students.

Our executive education programming is individually designed to meet the vision, needs, and specific requests of sponsoring organizations. All program designs are therefore tailored to each group and reflect a balanced curriculum by incorporating academic seminars, field symposia, and practical exchanges with renowned scholars, industry professionals, and government officials to offer both theoretical and empirical insights. Participants broaden their perspectives with fresh paradigms, strengthen their evaluation and analytical skills, share experiences with counterparts, and embrace innovative ways of thinking, leading, and creating.

POMP’s executive programs pioneer cross- and trans-disciplinary education combined with unique on-site training. Learning subjects are commonly presented by and discussed with multiple experts from different fields and backgrounds. Participants have ample opportunities to survey and examine issues from different perspectives and reach a comprehensive understanding. Concurrently, our program methodologies stress interactive teamwork; participants learn not only from instructors and field experts, they also benefit from group dynamics and networks. Agency and company observation, shadowing or internship can also be arranged. Many participants continue to maintain contact and meet regularly with their cohorts as well as program instructors and staff years after their programs concluded.

For international groups from non-English speaking countries, an important program feature is POMP’s capability to provide professional simultaneous and/or consecutive interpretation/translation to maximize learning in all settings. Further, a special workshop on American values and culture is often incorporated to familiarize foreign participants with the norms and backgrounds of the American ways of thinking and operating. Participants from non-Western countries have found such an introduction particularly helpful to understand the rationale of cultural differences and to work together more effectively.

With a myriad of first rate resources and faculty available on the picturesque Duke campus in Durham, North Carolina, the unique trans-disciplinary nature and experience of POMP’s executive programs bring together prominent scholars and practitioners in diversified fields from both private and governmental organizations at the state, federal, and international levels to provide the best integrated and customized curriculum. The advantageous geographical location of Duke University also offers additional field experts from nearby top tier universities and world-renowned research institutes such as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University, Wake Forest University, and Research Triangle Park.

Most of POMP’s executive professional development programs are two weeks to two months in length; and some include sessions in multiple cities or states based on program theme and design. Room and board as well as local transportation and group weekend activities can also be arranged upon request. Prospective sponsoring organizations are welcome to contact POMP for consultation on possible programming concepts.
